Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor their parents and grandparents to become a Canadian permanent resident if both the sponsors and sponsored persons meet the eligibility requirements.

Currently, the sponsorship is a two-step process:

  1. The Canadian child fills out the interest to sponsor form
  2. If selected in the annual draw, the sponsor will get an invitation letter to submit the complete application for sponsorship to IRCC

If you sponsor your parents and grandparents, you must:

  • support them and their dependants financially
  • make sure they don’t need social assistance from the government

The Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship program for the year 2020 has been closed and invitation letters have been sent in the first week of January 2021.
