 What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is the Canadian government's system for managing applications to various economic immigration programs, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC). Introduced in January 2015, it provides a faster, more efficient path for skilled workers to become permanent residents of Canada.

Through the Express Entry, candidates create an online profile, which is ranked against others based on factors like age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and adaptability. The highest-ranking candidates are invited to apply for permanent residency through regular draws.

To qualify for Express Entry, candidates must meet the requirements of one of the following programs:

  1. Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP):
    • At least 1 year of full-time skilled work experience (TEER 0,1,2,3) in the past 10 years.
    • A valid job offer (optional but beneficial).
    • Proof of language proficiency in English or French (CLB 7 or higher).
    • Meet the minimum education requirement (secondary school, post-secondary education, or equivalent).
    • Gain the minimum score of 67 in the federal skilled worker program selection factors
  2. Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP):
    • 2 years of full-time work experience in a skilled trade within the last 5 years.
    • A valid job offer or certification of qualification in a skilled trade.
    • Proof of language proficiency (CLB 5 for speaking and listening, CLB 4 for reading and writing).
  3. Canadian Experience Class (CEC):

Candidates who meet the requirements of any of these programs can then submit their profile into the Express Entry pool.

How to Apply for Express Entry?

1- Create Your Express Entry Profile
The first step is to create your Express Entry profile on the official Canadian immigration website. You will need to provide personal details, including your work experience, education, language test results, and other supporting documents.

2- Get Ranked Using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS)
After submitting your expression of interest (EOI), you will receive a CRS score based on factors like age, education, work experience, language skills, and adaptability. The higher your score, the better your chances of receiving an invitation to apply (ITA) for permanent residency.

3- Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA)
The Canadian government conducts regular draws, selecting the highest-ranking candidates based on their CRS score. If you’re selected, you will receive an ITA, allowing you to submit your permanent residency application.

4- Submit Your Application for Permanent Residency
Once you receive an ITA, you’ll need to submit your complete application for permanent residency. This includes supporting documents like medical exams, police certificates, and proof of funds.

5- Wait for Final Decision
After submitting your application, the Canadian government will process it, typically within 6 months. If approved, you’ll receive your Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and can move to Canada!

 Rounds of Invitation

The government of Canada conducts regular draws from the pool of eligible candidates, and invites the highest-ranking candidates to apply for permanent residence. The number of invitations issued in each draw can vary, and the government sets a minimum CRS score for each draw. This means that only candidates with a CRS score above the minimum will be invited to apply for permanent residence.

There are several factors that can help improve a candidate’s CRS score and increase their chances of being invited to apply for permanent residence. These include having a valid job offer from a Canadian employer, or a nomination from a Canadian province or territory. Candidates with a high level of education, work experience, and language proficiency will also receive higher scores.

One of the major benefits of the Express Entry system is that it allows for faster processing times for skilled workers looking to immigrate to Canada. The system is designed to be efficient and transparent, and allows candidates to see where they stand in the pool of eligible candidates. This allows candidates to make adjustments to their profile if necessary, and increase their chances of being invited to apply for permanent residence.
